Assessment

Disabled Students' Allowance - The process

  1. Contact the disability officer at your institution.
  2. Contact your funding body to ask for DSA application form.
  3. Complete and sign DSA application form and return to your funding body. Ensure that medical evidence of disability or specific learning difficulty is attached to application form.
  4. Your funding body will consider the application for DSA.
  5. If you eligible then the funding body will inform you by letter.
  6. Contact ATOP Ltd. assessment centre for DSA assessment.
  7. Attend DSA assessment interview.
  8. Receive draft copy of Assessment report.
  9. Check report for accuracy of information and understanding of recommendations.
    • Discuss with ATOP assessor.
  10. Confirm acceptance of report with assessment centre.
  11. Assessment centre will send copy of assessment report to your funding body and the Disability office at your institution.
  12. The funding body considers the recommendations in the report.
    • If there are issues over the report then the funding body will discuss with assessor.
  13. The funding body will write to you and your disability adviser to confirm the support that has been approved.
    • The university disability adviser will ensure that departmental staff have a copy of the relevant sections of the report.
  14. You will need to arrange support as recommended and approved by contacting suppliers, trainers, etc. as outlined in the report. Your disability adviser may be able to help with this.
